Move PS1 saves to another emulator
1
Find your memory card
In the emulator you played on – see the table below.
2
Choose it above
You see every save on the card with its name, serial and icon.
3
Pick the new format
Click the format your new emulator uses to download the card.
4
Name it and copy it
Name it the way the new emulator expects and put it in its card folder – with the emulator closed.
| Emulator | Where the card is | File |
|---|---|---|
| DuckStation | The memcards folder in its user folder (Settings › Memory Cards shows it) | .mcd, one card per game |
| ePSXe | The memcards folder | epsxe000.mcr (slot 1), epsxe001.mcr (slot 2) |
| RetroArch (Beetle PSX, PCSX ReARMed, SwanStation) | The saves folder | game name.srm – the same name as the game file |
| PCSX-Redux | Its memory card setting | .mcd |
| Mednafen | The sav folder | .mcr, one card per game |
| PSP / PS Vita (Adrenaline) | PSP/SAVEDATA/<game ID>/ | SCEVMC0.VMP, SCEVMC1.VMP |
RETROARCH
Same name as the game
For Super Robot Taisen F (English).cue the card is Super Robot Taisen F (English).srm.
DUCKSTATION
Let it make the card first
Start the game once so DuckStation creates its card, close it, then replace that file with yours under exactly the same name.
BACKUP
Make a copy of the card your new emulator already has before you replace it.
Does my old save work with the English patch?
In most cases, yes: a translation patch keeps the game’s save format, so a save from the Japanese version loads in the patched game. What changes is the file name – emulators that keep one card per game look for a card named after the new file. Rename your card to match the patched game. If a patch does not work with old saves, its release notes say so. Back up your save first.
Copy one save to another card
1
Export it
Open the card that has the save and click Export .mcs next to it.
2
Open the other card
Or click start with an empty PS1 memory card.
3
Add it
Click + Add a save and choose the file. .mcs, .psv (PS3), .psx and .mcb all work.
4
Download the card
In the format your emulator uses.
PSP and PS Vita
PS1 games on a PSP or a PS Vita (Adrenaline) keep their cards as SCEVMC0.VMP and SCEVMC1.VMP in the game’s save folder. The converter reads them, and writes them with the signature the console checks – choose .vmp and name the file like the one you replace.

NDS
DeSmuME .dsv → .sav
DeSmuME adds a footer to its saves. The converter takes it off and gives you the plain .sav that melonDS, NO$GBA and flash carts use. The other way: DeSmuME’s File › Import Backup Memory.
GBA · SNES · GB
Battery saves
The same in every emulator – only .sav or .srm differs. If one ignores your save, try the size the game uses: GBA EEPROM 512 B / 8 KB, SRAM 32 KB, Flash 64 / 128 KB. A clock block at the end is spotted and can be cut.
PS2
Memory cards
Open an 8 MB PCSX2 card (.ps2) to see every save on it. Add saves you downloaded – .psu, .max (Action Replay Max), .cbs (CodeBreaker), .sps / .xps (SharkPort / X-Port) – take any save out as .psu, or start an empty card.
SAVE STATES
Save states (.ss, .state, .sstate…) are snapshots of one emulator’s memory and only work in that emulator. Make a normal in-game save before you switch.
Questions and answers
Is the save converter free, and is my save uploaded?
It is free, and your save is not uploaded: it is read and converted in your browser, on your own device.
What is the difference between .mcr, .mcd and .srm?
For PS1 memory cards, nothing but the name: all three are the same 128 KB card. A DexDrive .gme and a PSP .vmp have an extra header in front, which the converter adds or removes.
Which format does my emulator use?
DuckStation and PCSX-Redux use .mcd; ePSXe, PCSX and Mednafen use .mcr; RetroArch uses .srm named like the game file; the PS3 uses .VM1; PSP and PS Vita use .VMP.
Can I convert save states?
No. Save states only work in the emulator that made them. Make an in-game save and convert that instead.
My save does not show up after switching to the patched game. Why?
The emulator is looking for a card or save named after the new game file. Rename your card or save to match the patched game’s file name.
I downloaded a single save (.psv, .psx, .mcb, .mcs). How do I use it?
Open your memory card here (or start an empty one), click “+ Add a save” and choose the file, then download the card for your emulator.
Can I put PS1 saves on a PSP or PS Vita?
Yes. Open or build the card here, choose .vmp and copy it over SCEVMC0.VMP (or SCEVMC1.VMP) in the game’s folder under PSP/SAVEDATA. Keep a copy of the old file.
Can I move saves from a real PlayStation?
Yes, if you have them as a DexDrive .gme or a raw card dump from a memory card adapter: open the file here and save it for your emulator.
Does it work with PS2 memory cards?
Yes, with the 8 MB cards PCSX2 and AetherSX2 / NetherSX2 use (.ps2, with or without ECC). Open your card, click “+ Add a save” and choose a .psu, .max, .cbs, .sps or .xps file, then download the card and put it back in the emulator’s memcards folder. Each save can also be exported as .psu.
My GBA save does not load in the new emulator.
Try the size the game uses (see above), and check that the emulator detects the right save type – mGBA, for example, lets you choose it.
