Missables
What you can lose for good, and what is merely easy to overlook.
Lord of Paladin is a forgiving game: almost every place stays open until the end, shops never run out, and Naji lets you continue after a defeat. Only a handful of things close for good, and one of them decides which ending you see. This page lists them, from the game’s own script and code.
How to use this list
- Ticks are shared with the Complete Walkthrough: tick an entry here and it is ticked there too (same browser).
- “Details” jumps to the full entry in the walkthrough.
- Everything not listed here stays available until you answer Ballena in Episode 12.
Things to know
🐋 Ballena's question (Ep. 12)
Answer "Go on ahead!" on Flying Whale Castle and the Grand Tournament starts at once. There is no saving, healing or shopping until the ending, and the World Map only leads to Earth's Blade from then on. "Train some more" is the safe answer.
🏆 The full ending (Finale)
Only a clean sweep gives the full ending, where Adeu becomes Ryu Paladin Lord Zephyr: win all five tournament bouts and deal at least 448 more damage than you take. Losing a bout doesn't stop the tournament, it just costs you that ending.
⚔️ The last smith upgrade (Ep. 9, 10)
At level 51 the smiths do one last, once-only upgrade. Only Dradd (Pafuricia Town) gives the Holy Tempest and Ninto Blade, and only Gladd (Mithril Town) the Sordin Shield and Sordin Gauntlet. Any other smith gives the Mithril piece, which can never be upgraded.
💥 Story Ryu battles
Lose an ordinary fight and Naji gives you another chance, as often as you need. Lose a story Ryu battle and the game goes straight back to the title screen; anything since your last save is lost. Save before every Ryu battle.
🛡️ The Hidden Item (Ep. 1!)
Before your first talk with Rina in Westguns, step onto the marked spot north of town (map 06). Only then does the Lucky Goblin appear in the Lava Cave (Ep. 9) with the Hidden Item, which protects Adeu or Sarutobi on foot from enemies, lava and poison. World Map warps to Episodes 2-7 or 10-12 before you meet him remove him.

Written for Game Translate from our own work on the English patch: the full English script (every line cited by its record), data read straight from the ROM (maps, exits, chests, shop stock, prices, armor stats, the smith and tournament rules), and tests in an emulator (controls, saving, chests, hidden levers, the World Map, the maps themselves). Route and boss notes were cross-checked against the two GameFAQs guides: Rough Hike by SuperJoshua (2021) and FAQ (Incomplete) by Steven Bruck (1999). Thanks to both authors for charting this game long before a translation existed. Release facts were checked against public game databases.
