Party & Systems

How 2-player mode and the Order command work, the Materia rule, difficulty, damage and money, every boss with real numbers, every shop, and the odds of every random event.

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Rejoice looks like a simple action RPG, but a lot depends on who walks onto a spot. This page explains the systems behind the walkthrough. The numbers were read from the game’s tables and checked in an emulator.

Order and 2-player mode

Verified

When a scene starts from a spot on the map, the game records which character touched it, and many scenes check that record. Doll reads a sign differently from Treno; shopkeepers show the weapons of whoever walks up. You can choose that character in two ways.

👑 System → Order (one player)

Open the X menu, choose System → Order and swap the party so the character you want is first. The new leader walks the field and is the one who triggers scenes. In our test, Doll leading and stepping on a scene spot gave exactly the “Doll” version.

🎮 SELECT on controller 2 (two players)

Press SELECT on controller 2: a second character joins the field, controlled with controller 2. Press it again to send them back. Who appears depends on the story (see below), and in some places the game refuses (“Doll’s at Akim’s House, isn’t he”). Some scenes need 2-player mode to be on and Doll to be the one who walks in: that is what this guide calls Doll as player 2.

In our test, turning 2-player mode on while Doll was leading moved Doll to player 2 and gave the lead back to another member, so for “Doll as player 2” scenes, walk Doll in with controller 2. On an emulator, map a second controller (or a few keys) to controller 2.

Story pointPlayer 2 is…
Ch. 3–4, after Doll joins on the coastDoll
Ch. 4 end – Ch. 5, Doll sick at Akim’srefused
Ch. 5–6, after Doll rejoinsDoll
Ch. 7, Cave TownDoll (the first call is how she rejoins); Doll + Gitchon after Gitchon joins; refused while shrunk
Ch. 8–10Doll and Millrose
Ch. 10 after Galt’s House – Ch. 11Mikey
Ch. 12, Howard CastleDoll and Mikey, then Doll
Ch. 14–16Doll with Materia or Chris

If no story stage matches, turning 2-player mode off prints a leftover developer label, PC2-OFF.

Materia or Chris

Script

On Clockwork Castle 10F (Ch. 14) a friend of Doll’s from Halo-Halo Town appears. The game checks three groups of flags in turn: if Doll earned at least one flag in each of groups A, B and C, it’s Materia; if any group is empty, it’s Chris. The choice changes the reunion, a scene at the burning bridge, some lines in the tower and the very last line of the game. Nothing else is locked either way.

Easiest route: group C, read the forest sign with Doll leading (Ch. 4); group B, walk into the Chapel with Doll leading (Ch. 6); group A, pick up the Honey Factory Key with Doll leading (Ch. 7). Ticks here are shared with the walkthrough.

Difficulty and Config

Verified

Rejoice Config menu in English: Sound, Text, Item, Difficulty, Music Mode
X menu → System → Config

The Config screen has five rows: Sound (Stereo / Mono), Text speed (Slow / Normal / Fast), Item (what the item button does: Healing or Special Attack), Difficulty (Easy / Normal / Hard) and Music Mode. A new game starts on Normal; you can change it any time.

DifficultyCoins dropped by enemiesDamage you take
Easyfull countthe same on all three: enemy attack minus your defence (tested on Hard)
Normalhalf (at least 1)
Harda quarter (at least 1)

We measured coin drops and contact damage. Enemy behaviour on each setting was not measured.

Damage, EXP and money

Verified

  • Damage you take when an enemy touches you = the enemy’s attack − your defence, at least 1. Example: attack 52 against defence 15 = 37.
  • Damage you deal with a sword = your attack (weapon included). We found no defence value for enemies, and on the five enemy types we measured (three of them boss parts) every hit did exactly your attack. Resistances to magic stones were not measured.
  • EXP from each kill is added to your experience counter; when it reaches the next level’s value you level up and it starts again from 0. The level cap is 100.
  • Coins: each enemy drops a fixed number of 100-Pera and 10-Pera coins (see Difficulty). At most 8 coins are on screen; uncollected coins vanish.
  • Money is capped at 650,000 Pera. Money chests hold 1,000 to 5,000 Pera.
  • Bosses give EXP; the ones made of ordinary enemies (the library guards, Ice Cube, Dokukinokon…) also drop coins. Story items (Yorda Ring, Keys) come from the scenes after the fight.

All bosses

Verified HP, attack and EXP were read from the boss tables and matched in battle for ten of the thirteen fights; the opening Ice Cube, the Man-Eating Giant and Howard are ROM values only.

Random events: the real odds

Verified The game rolls from a fixed table of 256 numbers, stepping through it about twice per frame. For these events we ran all 256 starting points in an emulator (Oil’s step uses the same rule as Ail’s and was computed from it), so these are exact odds.

EventOdds
