About the game
YouTube video player
Super Robot Taisen D (Super Robot Wars D) is the third Super Robot Wars on the Game Boy Advance. On the day the Earth disappears from the sky, Joshua Radcliff and his sister Cliana “Lim” Rimskaya survive an attack on an Antarctic research base, and from there the war takes them from a sealed-off Europe to Jupiter, Planet Lux and the homeworld of the Gishin Empire, with the mysterious Ruina watching every step.
The cast: Victory Gundam, Char’s Counterattack, Zeta and ZZ Gundam, Gundam W Endless Waltz, Macross 7, The Big O, Getter Robo Armageddon, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Daltanious, God Mars and Megazone 23. Four route splits, two heroes with their own Ruina partner to recruit, and nearly twenty secrets give plenty of reasons to play it more than once.

What’s translated
What’s new in the patch
A font made for English
Text boxes, menus and battle windows use a new variable-width font, so long names (Mass-Prod. ν Gundam, VF-11C Full Armored Thunderbolt) fit wherever the screen allows it. Story pages are re-flowed for English automatically.
Anim ON / OFF
The battle forecast keeps the original animation switch, now labelled Anim. With animations off, the quick map battles show English effect labels too.
Official names
Pilots, mechs and attacks use the names from official English releases of each series (Gundam, Macross, Getter, Mazinger, The Big O and more), checked series by series.
Rename in English
The hero setup screens have an English keyboard: rename Joshua, Lim, their mechs, their weapons and your squadron (default: Blue Swear).
How to patch
- Get a clean Japanese ROM. You need your own dump of Super Robot Taisen D (Japan): 8 MB (8,388,608 bytes). Check it before patching:
CRC32 EFB45117SHA-1 0a839d151d2e82b972db7c5d3651061866f133d4
We can’t share ROMs, so please don’t ask. - Download and unzip the patch. Inside is
Super Robot Taisen D (English) v1.2.1.ipsand a readme. - Apply the IPS. The easiest way is Rom Patcher JS in your browser: choose the ROM, choose the .ips, click Apply patch. On desktop you can also use Floating IPS (Flips).
- Check the result. The patched ROM is 9.9 MB (it was expanded to fit the English text):
CRC32 8B0CFD32SHA-1 429609af84d0d93cbed0b6803c73f1f5988c7f07 - Play. Tested in mGBA. Any accurate GBA emulator should work, and so should a flash cart on real hardware.
Updating from an older build? Always patch a fresh copy of the clean Japanese ROM, never a ROM you already patched. Your in-game save (.sav) carries over. Emulator save states made with older builds keep the old text on screen until the game redraws it, so make a normal save before switching.
Known issues
- The big Super Robot Taisen D logo on the title screen is kept in Japanese, as on the box art.
- The whole game has been played through on both heroes and every route, with no known problems.
Found a typo or a line that reads oddly? Leave a comment below with where it happened (a screenshot helps) and it’ll be fixed.
Guides for this game
We also wrote a full English guide from the game’s own event scripts, using the same names as the patch:
- Complete walkthrough: all 52 scenarios on every route, with annotated battle maps and every part enemies carry
- Missables: secret units and boss parts, sorted by deadline
- Secret units: every hidden recruit and the exact condition the game checks
- Secrets & hidden mechanics: routes, kill checks, the partner system and the 39 puzzles
FAQ
Is the translation complete?
Yes. Every story line, every battle quote and every menu is in English, on every route and for both heroes.
Joshua or Lim?
Both are fully translated. The story is the same, but the dialogue, two scenario titles and the Ruina partner you can recruit differ. The walkthrough covers both.
Why is the patched ROM bigger than the original?
English takes more space than Japanese, so the ROM is expanded from 8 MB to 9.9 MB, only as much as the English text needs.
The game shows a white screen or garbage.
Check the patched ROM against the CRC32 above. If it doesn’t match, your original ROM was not the clean Japanese version, or it was already patched.
Can I upload the patch to another site?
Not without permission. Please share the link to this page instead, so everyone gets the latest version. If you’d like to host or mirror it, email gametranslate.us@gmail.com. Pre-patched ROMs must never be shared: the game itself still belongs to Banpresto and the rights holders.

Changelog
v1.2.1 · October 10, 2026
- Smaller patched ROM: 9.9 MB instead of 16 MB. The ROM is now expanded only as much as the English text needs. No other changes.
- Saves keep working. Apply v1.2.1 to a clean Japanese ROM.
v1.2 · October 10, 2026
- New font. Dialogue, battle quotes and menus use a redrawn proportional font (cleaner letters, real descenders, proper apostrophes and commas). Same font as Super Robot Taisen R v1.2.
- Saves keep working. Apply v1.2 to a clean Japanese ROM.
v1.1.1 · October 5, 2026
- Fixed: going back through the dialogue with the B button showed earlier lines in Japanese. They now show in English, exactly as first displayed. Thanks to the player who reported it!
- Saves keep working. Apply v1.1.1 to a clean Japanese ROM.
v1.1 · October 4, 2026
- Full story polish. About 3,000 lines rewritten across all 52 scenarios so the dialogue reads like natural English while staying faithful to the Japanese. Stiff, literal and Japanese-style phrasing is gone, every character keeps their own voice, and characters shared with Super Robot Taisen R talk the same way in both games.
- Consistency pass. Repeated scenes (both heroes’ routes, recaps) now read the same every time. Names, ranks and terms are unified, with Macross 7 ranks following the official English subtitles.
- Reused lines fixed. The game reuses some short lines in several scenes; each one now fits every scene it appears in (no more “No…” where the character means “Yeah…”).
- Wordplay adapted so jokes and puns land in English.
- Battle quotes: Boss’s lines reworked, and “!?” punctuation unified.
- Saves from v1.0 keep working. Apply v1.1 to a clean Japanese ROM, not to a ROM already patched with v1.0.
v1.0 · October 2, 2026
- First public release.

Why don’t you use the font from the SRWJ translation? The one from R is too wide, the one from D is too narrow, and on real hardware, it’s hard to read, at least for me (see photo).
Game Translate Author
I’m looking at the font used in Fire Emblem. It looks really nice and clear. The letters are a bit too compressed vertically, but I think that can be adjusted to make them slightly bigger and rounder. Overall though, I really like this font. What do you think?
NikoKaro Bug HunterRegular
@Game Translate Hm… Maybe it’s a bit better. Let’s see what the others say. In any case, there’s no rush. You’ve done far too much for all of us. Thanks again.
JustAsking
Are these translation for D and R both AI Translations ? I will play them anyway, I just want to be clear when telling other people about them.
Game Translate Author
Not really. I do use AI and other tools along the way, but R and D aren’t just AI scripts dropped straight into the games.
I still check the Japanese, rewrite awkward lines, keep character voices and terminology consistent, and test everything in-game. There’s a lot of manual work involved.
I’m also doing another dialogue polish pass on both games now, so updated versions will be posted soon. Keep an eye on the site.
JustAsking Bug Hunter
@Game Translate That’s even better. Thank you for the great work, and I will be visiting the site regularly from now on.
Also, the youtube video doesn’t have audio, is that a bug with the patch, or did you just record the video without audio in the first place ?
Finally, do you already know what you’re translating next, or do you take suggestions ?
Game Translate Author
@JustAsking I’m still completely tied up with SRW F and Final. F is only up to Scenario 32 at the moment, and I haven’t even started Final yet, so there’s still a huge amount of work ahead of me.
I really want to finish both F and Final properly before I even think about starting another big translation project.
I recorded the video directly in mGBA, so honestly I have no idea why the audio didn’t get recorded 😄 It’s not an issue with the patch though, just something that happened with the recording.
JustAsking Bug Hunter
@Game Translate I see that makes sense.
Btw, I just tried to finally download the patch, but my god. The site you’re linking to is filled with malicious stuff man. All my anti-trackers and anti-viruses went crazy.
Is there anyway to just upload the patches on direct download sites, like Mega, or google drive ? Anything direct other than having to go through that minefield of sites.
Game Translate Author
Yeah, I know 😅 They’re ads, not malware, but I agree they look pretty sketchy. I keep them to help cover the site’s hosting costs, so I hope you understand.
JustAsking Bug Hunter
@Game Translate I get where you’re coming from, but that many will cause people to just upload your patches elsewhere and avoid using your site altogether. I have seen it every time wither it is for patches, manga, or anime, people will just go somewhere else for them.
Anyway, using your patch I actually found an issue. When your reading the dialogue, if you press the button to go backwards instead (I think the B button) to see the previous text, the text will show up in Japanese instead of English.
Game Translate Author
Thank you for catching this!
What was going on: the game keeps a short history of recent dialogue pages. When you press B, it redraws an old page, and our patch was only swapping in English for the page currently on screen. Older pages fell back to the original Japanese.
Version 1.1.1 fixes this. The patch now works out which line each old page belongs to and shows the same English page you saw the first time. We tested it in long conversations, going all the way back through the history, and normal play is unchanged.
Thanks again, and happy piloting!
