Granhistoria
Secrets & Cut Content

What the game never tells you, and what it left behind. Found while translating the game and reading its data.

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Translating Granhistoria meant reading all of its text and a good part of its data: maps, chests, menus and the World Chronicle. Some of it never shows up in a normal game. Each section says how sure we are: Verified means we read it in the data or saw it in the emulator; Script means it is in the game’s text; Unconfirmed means we found traces but not how to reach it.

The cut ending room with the switches the other way round

Verified

The game contains a whole scene that is never used (dialogue table at 00:CC1C, which no map or event calls): a room captioned “Demon Vajra Room”, with its own version of the final choice. In it, the World Chronicle explains the two keyholes the other way round from the finished game: the device on the right stops all the power of Za and erases Za from the world, while the device on the left leads to “a world where Za and Ge fight each other as before… or an entirely different world”. Mikene and Gainaster wonder which keyhole you’ll pick. The finished Key Room puts “stop everything” on the left.

No map or event calls this text, so it was replaced before release. We translated it but left it unpatched.

A debug menu inside the field menu

Unconfirmed

The script that draws the field menu also holds a developer menu: Map No., Adjust, Add Item and a sound test with Song and SFX. The strings are translated in the patch, so they will read in English if you ever reach them. We have not found the button code or condition that opens it.

If you find a way in, warping with “Map No.” skips the story flags of that year, so play on a copy of your save.

Za is a machine

Script

Listen to Za during Kunon’s blessing in 806: it “registers” the child and reports “registration complete”. At your coronation in 809 it transfers “the main unit of the Asashina area” from Denikes to you. The museum, the Sky Kingdom and the ending all build on this: the Za gods were made by Ma, and the angels run on energy sent from a ship beneath Asashina.

Your first name is taken

Script

The name you type at the start belongs to the body you wear until 816. After Kain steals that body, he rules as king under that name; knights call him “King <your first name>”. In 817 you must enter a new name, and the game refuses the old one (“That name cannot be used”).

Chest records that are never placed

Verified

The game has 80 chest records. 75 of them are placed on maps (see the full list). The other five:

  • #1 Horare and #2 20 Nel: never placed as treasure boxes. The horare flowers you pick at the forest spring for the bandit cook are probably record #1.
  • #25 Sabatons: its only placement is a placeholder in the object list of the Capital Underground’s lower level, at position (64,64), outside the 16×47 map, so it can’t be reached.
  • #26 Shinobi and #27 Flamer: not placed on any map.

Duplicate and dummy items

Verified

Item 49 is named Kaigen A with the description “Dummy”. Items 46 and 47 are both called Soul Orb (“a round orb of Soul Stone”): one is the orb the man at the East Region port gives you for the 500 Nel loan, the other the large orb from the Dragon of Ge. Item 45 is the Vajra, “a mysterious sword”: the Demon Vajra.

"Mad Knight" and your name

Verified

In the History screen, the title of one original-history event is assembled from three pieces: “Knight”, the name you entered and “Madness”. In the original history, the knight who goes mad is you: the soul in Tor’s body. See the World Chronicle Guide.

Saman and Rizara are sisters

Script

Not even the World Chronicle knows it: aboard the Yukumo, Saman calls Rizara “Big sister!”, and you point out to the Chronicle that this wasn’t written in it. Later Mikene notices that Rizara never ages. The People card for Rizara eventually reveals she was an angel in human form.

Alruna's hint service

Script

Alruna, in the royal capital’s Hall of the Second Coming, has a hint for almost every year of the game, from “a pickpocket girl will open the next path” to “act with the seasons in mind” in 812. In 825 she also restores your party and fills you in on the years you skipped.

Keminu's shopkeeper

Script

The shopkeeper in Keminu tells you to come round to the front of his counter if you want him to sell you something.

Experience and rejoining members

Unconfirmed

Japanese fan sites report two rules we have not re-measured: experience is shared so that fewer survivors get more each (roughly enemy EXP × (17 − survivors) ÷ 16), and characters who join get the hero’s experience. They also report that a member who rejoins comes back with default equipment, while what they wore when leaving stays in your bag, which can be used to duplicate gear.

Unused captions

Verified

Five location captions are stored but never shown: Mountain of Ge (a second copy), Yukumo Engine Room (second copy), Inn Guest Room, Prison and City of the Sky People. Map 222, a large 128×128 map with no name, is also never visited in the story as far as we can tell.

The in-game map (patch feature)

Verified

The English patch adds a map screen that the original never had. Stand still in any dungeon and press SELECT: you see the paths you can reach, the exits and the unopened chests. It is drawn from the game’s own data, so opened chests disappear from it. It doesn’t work in towns or on the world map.
