About the game
YouTube video player
Rejoice: Aretha Oukoku no Kanata (“Beyond the Kingdom of Aretha”) is the action RPG of Yanoman’s Aretha series. Treno leads a gang of young thieves in Ishu Town who call themselves [Rejoice]. One job goes wrong: the statue they dig out of a cave is paid for with a book of magic, one of the gang turns it on his friends, and a tidal wave washes Treno up beside a mysterious traveler named Doll.
From there the road runs through a forest of poison mushrooms, a castle full of tricks, a kingdom of ants and grasshoppers, a sunken pirate ship and the towers of Demon King Howard, who is searching for a runaway magic doll called Millrose. You fight in real time with swords and swappable magic stones, and a second player can join at any moment with the second controller.
The game never left Japan. In July 2026 it was re-released in Japanese in the Aretha Collection for modern consoles; this patch is for the original Super Famicom ROM.

New features
Dungeon map
Press SELECT on the field in any of 48 dungeon areas (forests, castles, caves, the sea floor, the towers): the area’s name, the floor you can actually reach, your position, the exits and the chests you haven’t opened yet. Press B to close.
Proportional English font
A new variable-width font in the dialogue box, so full sentences fit without abbreviations. Speaker names appear at the top of each box, as in the original.
Controls added by the patch
| WHERE | BUTTON | WHAT IT DOES |
|---|---|---|
| Field, in a dungeon | SELECT | Open the dungeon map |
| Dungeon map | B | Close the map |
The original’s own two-player feature still works the same way: press SELECT on controller 2 to bring a second character onto the field.
How to patch
- Get a clean Japanese ROM. You need your own dump of Rejoice: Aretha Oukoku no Kanata (Japan): 2 MB, no copier header. Check it before patching:
CRC32 C2413BDDSHA-1 50350bef7244c9d668dc1083f0e90aff549b3200
If the file is 2,097,664 bytes it has a 512-byte header; remove it first (Rom Patcher JS can do this for you). We can’t share ROMs, so please don’t ask. - Download and unzip the patch. Inside is
Rejoice (English) v1.3.bpsand a readme. - Apply the BPS. The easiest way is Rom Patcher JS in your browser: choose the ROM, choose the .bps, click Apply patch. On desktop you can also use Floating IPS (Flips). BPS checks your ROM first and refuses the wrong one.
- Check the result. The patched ROM is 4 MB (it was expanded to fit the English text and the map screen):
CRC32 01E3ED12SHA-1 bbc9a73834774abc44cc2fcd57921ec04a43f204 - Play. Tested in Mesen and Snes9x: v1.0 and v1.1 were run in Mesen, and v1.2 and v1.3 (title logo and dungeon map changes only) went through Snes9x (title screen, boot, menus, every choice menu, dungeon maps, save and load, the ending). Saves from earlier versions keep working. Other accurate emulators (bsnes, ares) and flash carts that run 4 MB LoROM games should work too.
Two players on an emulator? Map a second controller (or a few spare keys) to controller 2. Some scenes in the game depend on who walks into them; the guide explains when you need player 2.
Known issues
- The small Japanese lettering on the title logo is kept as part of the original artwork; the subtitle under it is in English.
- The dungeon map exists only in dungeons. Towns, houses, the hot spring and a few special places don’t have one.
Found a typo or a line that reads oddly? Leave a comment below with where it happened (a screenshot helps) and it’ll be fixed.
Guides for this game
We also wrote a full English guide that uses the same names as the patch:
- Complete walkthrough: all 17 chapters, with maps, all 136 chests and every boss
- Missables & Materia: everything you can lose for good, and the scenes that decide Materia or Chris
- Party & systems: 2-player mode, Order, difficulty, shops and the real odds of every gamble
- Secrets & cut content: a hidden debug menu and a secret radio studio
FAQ
Is the translation complete?
Yes. Every line of dialogue, every menu, item, name and place, the shops and the ending profiles are in English.
Which ROM do I need?
The Japanese ROM with CRC32 C2413BDD, without a header. The BPS file refuses any other ROM, so if patching fails, check your ROM first.
Why is the patched ROM bigger than the original?
English takes more space than Japanese, and the new map screen needs room too, so the ROM is expanded from 2 MB to 4 MB.
Does it work with the Aretha Collection release?
No. The patch is for the original Super Famicom ROM only.
Can I upload the patch to another site?
Not without permission. Please share the link to this page instead, so everyone gets the latest version. If you’d like to host or mirror it, email gametranslate.us@gmail.com. Pre-patched ROMs must never be shared: the game itself still belongs to its rights holders.

Thank you but please use another way to distribute your translations works, there is zero chance to reach the download links with the adds poping up like this one after another… Zero chance. 🙁

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I have to enable ads to help keep the hosting running. I only earn about $10 per 1,000 views, and since the site is still new, most people are understandably hesitant to donate yet. So unfortunately, I don’t really have another option right now.

I hope you can understand, and I’d really appreciate it if you could follow the download instructions provided.
Once again, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding and support.

@Game Translate Ok, thanks. I was just shocked at how many translations and how quickly a lot of these got published on your site! For this one especially, I’ve been waiting 15+ from another translation group to get this out, lol
